OKYEAME KWAME REMAINS NON-PARTISAN AND INDEPENDENT OF PARTY POLITICS

Okyeame Kwame wishes to reaffirm, for the avoidance of doubt, that he remains politically non-partisan and is not aligned with any political party in Ghana.

Over the course of his career, Okyeame Kwame has used his platform as a musician, cultural advocate, activist, author and philanthropist to contribute to public conversations on matters of national importance. He has consistently spoken on issues affecting Ghanaian society, including culture, education, health, youth development, environmental responsibility, national identity and the creative economy.

This public engagement should not be mistaken for party-political affiliation.

Okyeame Kwame believes that artists and public figures have a legitimate role to play in national development. He remains willing to engage constructively with any government, public institution, political party, civil society organisation or development partner where the purpose is to advance the interests of Ghana, strengthen the creative industries, support cultural development, or promote the wellbeing of Ghanaians.

However, he does not campaign for, endorse, or represent any political party.

In a vibrant democracy, it is natural that different political actors may seek the advice, support or public presence of respected cultural figures. Okyeame Kwame is grateful for the respect shown to him across the political spectrum. At the same time, he wishes to make clear that his commitment is to Ghana and to the Ghanaian people, not to any party-political agenda.

This independence has not always been without personal cost. Over the years, Okyeame Kwame has declined opportunities for partisan affiliation, endorsement or campaign activity that might have brought considerable financial benefit. He has done so deliberately, in order to preserve his impartiality, protect the trust of his diverse audience, and ensure that his public contribution remains available to all Ghanaians rather than to one political tradition alone.

He also recognises that his audience and supporters come from every part of Ghana’s political, cultural, ethnic, religious and social landscape. Ghana’s political culture can at times become highly antagonistic, with people too readily assuming that anyone who is not openly on their side must therefore be against them.

Okyeame Kwame does not accept that assumption. He believes it is possible to engage seriously with national issues without becoming an opponent of one side or a mouthpiece for another. He sees his role not as a partisan actor, but as a unifying cultural voice: someone who can help bridge divides, heal wounds, bring communities together, and support a common purpose of advancing the development of Ghana as a whole.

Okyeame Kwame therefore respectfully asks the public, media houses, political commentators and party communicators not to present his civic engagement as evidence of support for either of Ghana’s major political parties, or for any other party.

He remains proudly Ghanaian, socially engaged, culturally committed, and politically independent.

Signed,
Kwame Nsiah-Apau
